Our lighthouse trip didn't start out so well, seeing as how the lighthouse was under construction and inaccessible. :(
C kept us all looking on the bright side saying, "Next time we come it will be all fixed next time." Then he raced off down the boardwalk exclaiming, "Come on! Let's go hunt for snakes!"
He didn't see any snakes, but he did have an in depth conversation about them with this docent. She was very kind and she really engaged C! He asked her all about what kinds of animals lived there..."But, what about rattlesnakes?" "But, do you know about sand tiger sharks?" "Have you ever seen a sea snake in the water?"
These moments are fun to see because they are such a change from C's ordinary demeanor. He is usually on-the-go, wild and crazy man. But, he has the capacity to stand and talk with this woman like the two of them are old pals...just hanging out, talking about snakes. I think their conversation would've gone on longer had it not been for some new visitors that joined us on the boardwalk.
After learning how old C was, she was quite impressed with his knowledge of snakes. She told him he would make an excellent herpetologist when he grows up. I'm pretty sure with the amount of reference books we read about snakes at our house, I could be a herpetologist when I grow up! But, I'll leave it to C if he decides that snakes are, in fact, cooler than sharks. Right now it's a pretty close race.
