Just because I don't want to forget this milestone! Just shy of 4 1/2 years old, C has started reading. Last week I busted out some ABC flashcards and on a whim put some simple words together and he was able to sound them out. This week he's graduated to reading super short sentences. My word choice is limited because we've only covered one letter sound for each letter we've learned thus far in pre-k. But, here are some examples of the sentences he's been reading....
Cat is fat.
Dog sits on pig.
It is hot.
Stop kid.
No hit.
Batman helps frog.
Mom and Dad hug Christopher.
Frog hops.
Fun in sun.
Bug jumps on log.
I made a little video on my phone and sent it to hubby so he could hear him. I have no idea how to put that on here...but it's very reminiscent of Word World (for those of you w/ kids who watch it). He says each letter sound and then smooshes it together. And that's the moment that he gets a smile on his face because he realizes that those letters make a word and he actually knows what it is. It's incredibly precious...to watch the very beginnings of this life long skill start to take shape. I'm so proud. And humbled...to think that I get to be the one to lay this foundation. I'm excited to continue on the journey of reading with my boy.
