Favorite Things

This past week, we went to an open house at C's nature school.  It was entitled, "Our favorite things" and they had a bunch of projects the kids have been working on out on display.  C had told me this lantern was going to be there.  It was supposed to be a surprise, but he was really excited about it so he let me in on the secret.  We put a little light inside and hung it on our front door.  So much cuter than a porch light.  And functional.  Unlike the giant shoebox and sticks turned xylophone he brought him the other day that I have no idea what to do with. ;)
His tree is actually the one just to the right of where he's standing in this next picture.  He wrote his own name.  I noticed that whenever it was in his writing it was always the shortened version, but if one of the teacher's wrote it, they used the full version.  Perhaps he requests it when he doesn't have to do all the work...we did give him a lot to handle with those 11 letters. :)

I love the yarn hair on top his head and all the organs inside...and the heart!  Love it!  I had seen this up on the wall one day when I came to pick him up.  I guessed it was his before I found the name because I saw the spider on the hand.
This project, and the little q-tip person are both from the week they learned about their bodies.  And boy did he learn about his body..."what our those two little dots down there?"
I doubt there was any mention of the nether regions as all the preschoolers sat in a circle singing head, shoulders, knees and toes.  I, of course, knew that he learned that at home...from me actually.  Daddy is never around when the good questions come up.  I'm just wondering if his teacher knew better than to inquire about those mysterious dots.  Because you know if she did she received the same matter-of-fact reply of "testicles" that we got.  Do you have a five year old boy?  Did you ever?  Mom, you get it right.  Oh, the joys of raising a boy.  Haha!  Alright hubs, it's time to head upstairs for some more age appropriate coloring.

They had a slide show of pictures from all the classes.  During which mr. bossypants told all the younger, more excitable kids to "Be quiet!"  Did I mention the slide show was not accompanied by words...or music?  After a puppet show put on by the staff, C and I attempted one of our own.
Thankfully Daddy was the only one around to witness the untimely demise of our friend the bald eagle.
It was a fun night.  Even if hubby did complain the whole time about how hungry he was.  Due in large part to the fact that I promised sandwiches to eat in the car on our way there and I might not have delivered.  I took him to Red Robin to make up for it.  Where he received, "the worst service ever at a Red Robin.  And my burger wasn't as good as it usually is."  Well, yeah.  That's because there's a fried egg on top of it.  Anyway, I enjoyed the open house.  I like seeing our boy interacting with his little friends...like he has this whole other life outside our home.
