My wonderful husband is turning 30 at the end of this month. I wanted to do something special for it, so I coordinated with my folks who were coming out for a visit and planned a little getaway (sans kids!) for the two of us. A huge thank you to Nana and Papa for staying with the boys. I knew C would love it, but I was a little worried about lil' peanut. I actually haven't left him (other than with Daddy) since the few hours my parents watched him shortly after he came home so I could get the MRI done on my ankle. Things didn't go so well when I came home from that appointment, so I was anticipating having to pay big time for being away two days! He did great with Nana and Papa! And other than being a little more needy/emotional than usual the last day or two, he hasn't really punished us for leaving. I do think it's important that he learns that Mommy sometimes leaves, but always comes back....hoping this helped show him that Mommy is forever!
Now, onto our getaway! I booked a little cabin in the woods for us and we stayed two nights. It was only about an hour away, which we both loved because we didn't have to spend a lot of time driving. We were able to get there Thursday afternoon and settle right in.
And settle we did! I had made hubby's favorite meal and we brought it with us. So, we didn't even need to leave for dinner. We started the fireplace right up and didn't emerge until the next morning around 10.
Ahhh, the tub. It wasn't jetted but it was the deepest tub I've ever seen! It ran a very close second to the fireplace. You could definitely drown in that tub. Sigh. I want one.
Friday morning we headed in to downtown Frederick and started our day at a little cafe. The drinks were yummy. The bacon was incredible! But, the service was terrible. I think it was the first time we have ever left a restaurant without tipping our server. Ack! I feel a little guilty about it still. But, she was horrible. She took our order and that was it. Someone from the kitchen brought our food out. And our waitress never came back to check on us. I've done my fair share of waitressing (ie: twice I stuck around through training and then quit shortly after) ha! But, I do remember that you always check on your customers within two minutes of their food coming out. That way if something is wrong you can fix it right away. I never did get butter for my toast. We sat our empty water cups on the edge of the table only to have them and our many furtive glances go unnoticed. We hung out for, I kid you not, about 20 minutes after finishing our food waiting for the check. Hubby finally asked for it while I was in the bathroom. And we left without tipping. But, seriously, the bacon was amazing. And look at our pretty drinks! :)
After the cafe we wandered the streets for awhile and found ourselves in a giant antique store. It was so much fun looking at everything together. Are we getting old? I found the prettiest green glass bowl and just had to have it. Thankfully we'd saved a little cash at the cafe earlier. ;)
We spent the rest of the afternoon and evening back at our cozy little cabin. It was a really great weekend and I'm so thankful it worked out for my parents to watch the boys so hubs and I were able to have some time alone. We watched 5 movies, ha! Hung out by the fire, enjoyed quiet dinners. Quiet mornings, quiet conversations...mmm quiet. :) Hubby decided that I really just wanted my own getaway and used his birthday as an excuse to have it. He did start missing the boys the first night we were there. We were driving back home and I still hadn't made it to that point. He may be onto something with his theory. I love my boys, but I rarely get the chance to miss them. We were glad to be home, but decided that one day we need to get ourselves a little cabin of our own. :)
