Kindergarten-Week Two!

Whew!  I called my mom today and she asked "Where have you been?"  Busy!!!  We've had a full week.

Here's our official first day of school photo.  He wanted to stand in front of his favorite letter O.  And look, he's fully clothed!  (Which may have only happened because he slept in those clothes the night before)
 Checking the weather.
Recording his findings. :)

Posing with Backpack Bear (a fun interactive addition to our kindergarten class!  He came with the Starfall curriculum we are using and C really likes him)
Self portrait.  (That big circle above his head is a "germ" he told me)
Show and Tell.
We fit in a lot of P.E. this week. :)  Tuesday afternoon C had his last gymnastics class of the summer session.  He's doing well and still enjoying it so we signed him up for the upcoming fall session.  Here he is showing off his mad trampoline skillz. ;)
"Popcorn" is his favorite thing!
We got our lessons done early Wednesday morning and spent the rest of the day at the zoo with friends.  And on Thursday we met the same friends again for some more play time.  We went to a place that sells those really nice cedar playgrounds.  Every Monday and Thursday they open up their show room for open play!  It lasts from 10-1 and it's FREE!  Holla!  We will definitely be going back!  I love that we can do stuff like this all year long because he won't be at school all day.

They had two trampolines set up, which he loved!  Maybe one day we'll get one.  Although the all around safety nets do take away some of the fun.  I mean where's the thrill in that?  I know when I was a kid I got a rush of adrenaline every time I went careening toward the edge and ended up with one leg stuck in the springs.

And they had about 6-8 large play structures set up.

C and his buddy from down the street.  C prefaces his name with "big kid" every time he talks about him because his friend and peanut share the same name.

I think this week I had more fun doing school than C did.  :(  He is actually not that easy to teach.  (which I already knew from last year)  He tends to resist anything school related, feeling like it's too much work and doesn't show much of a desire to learn new things when they are presented in a structured way.  He needs a lot of encouragement to a) be convinced that he can complete the task and b) actually complete the task.  He is still young, I know that!  He's not even 5 yet.  So, I am sure that has something to do with it.  Maybe some of it also has to do with being a boy?  Being taught by his mom?  I'm not sure, but I will be working on finding a balance that works for us.  All work and no play is definitely not what I want.  That's one of the whole reasons I chose to keep him home this year!!!  But, I think there do need to be certain expectations when it comes to school, even if school is in your dining room. :)
