Honey it's HOT!

Today after we picked C up from vacation bible school (which if you are interested is not going so well!  My sweet boy tends to struggle in those structured group environments when he hasn't had numerous life changes to deal with.  I can't imagine the addition of a sibling and the absence of Daddy are helping.  He can't be acting naughty the whole time because he actually is learning stuff.  And I was so proud the other day when we got in the car and he asked me for $10 (a common occurrence!)  "Why do you want $10 buddy?"  He thrusted a handout at me and replied "Because!  There are people in this place in Africa and a lot of mosquitoes live there and the mosquitoes have this disease that can kill the people and they need nets to keep them safe while they sleep.  So, can I give them some money to buy a net?")  Anyway...after VBS today I wanted to take the boys on a fun adventure, which actually opened up a good conversation on grace and what it means when C said to me, "But, why do you want to take me somewhere fun.  I don't deserve it."

We checked out a nearby nature center.  The discovery room was a hit!

My little bugs! :)

After we looked at all the exhibits inside we decided to hike the trails.

Lil' peanut did awesome in the ergo.  Way better than me.  Good grief, what was I thinking strapping a 32 pounder to my back in 90 degree weather?  C did a lot of whining (or what I thought was whining)!  He actually might have heat exhaustion...poor baby!  He kept choosing the longest route but then he would complain about how tired/crampy he was and kept asking to have a turn being carried.  A couple hours after we got home he was burning up with fever and was so lethargic.  He asked to go to bed at 5:30!  If you know my child at all, that is NOT normal.  Thank goodness for the nurse hotline.  After sharing all his symptoms and his current status, she said it sounded like heat exhaustion.  Basically recommended fluid and rest.  He has been sleeping since 6 with the exception of me waking him up a couple times to get him to drink some gatorade.  I changed his pillow case once because he was drenched in sweat!  The ibuprofen finally kicked in though and the last time I checked him his fever had broken.

Mommy fail hiking in the heat of the day!  :(

It was a neat place, and it's free to visit on Wednesdays so I'm sure we'll be back again.
