One week ago today, I was frantically making my way through a checklist...forward mail, clean out fridge, pack, take out trash, text Kim about watering flowers, call CYS to see about refund for soccer season, pack, adjust a/c, unplug electronics, take down recyclables, oh yeah and pack.
Yep, one week ago, with the help of my big brother, we hit the road. For what some may call a temporary move...but what I prefer to think of as an extended vacation. I raised the white flag and took myself and my boys back to the comforts of a support system. It's never fun to be alone. And while C and I have endured several long seperations from Daddy, this one was kicking our butts. Tough stuff going on...on many fronts. Miraculously, hubby's team was planning on sending someone back to cover a couple positions at the unit in October anyway...pending approval 45 days out, he will be home October 8. On the 22nd I will go in for my first of two (yep, two) surgeries to repair the damage I did to my ankle back in May. Remember that? When I fell off a curb! Yeah, I'll never forget it. I will have 6 weeks of "no weight bearing/off my foot rest" to think about it. Followed by a couple months of physical therapy. Followed by another surgery. In the meantime we're hoping my ankle continues to survive. My doctor was hesitant to put off the first surgery (for the damaged cartilage) so long because apparentely it can come loose and lodge in my joint, leaving me with a locked ankle, which I assume would see the need for surgery sped up a bit.
So there we are. Or here we are, in Kansas, settling in to our new normal for the next couple of months. We are quite cozy in the basement bedroom of my folks house. C sleeps in a closet. Which is part sad, part awesome. He likes it though...his own little batcave.
Lil' peanut is doing awesome. Considering the huge change I threw his way he is cruising right along and generally going with the flow. He has been a major drool factory the past few days though, and pretty cranky, which is out of character for him. That combined with the fact that his fingers are always in his mouth are making me think he might be working on those two year old molars.
C is, of course, loving the time he is getting to spend with both sets of grandparents and his cousin, B. Those two are quite the pair. :) And lil' peanut and my brother's youngest are very intrigued by each other. He just can't figure out what that pink thing she always has in her mouth is. Ha! He is always trying to get at her paci.
Lil' peanut continues to pick up signs like crazy. And he has a few more words under his belt. He now says versions of 'oh my' 'yogurt' which sounds like gogurt and is so cute, 'scuse you' after burping, and 'thank you.'
You know, living in your parents basement isn't ideal, but it sure is a huge blessing to us during this time in our lives. I am so grateful to have family that will literally drop everything to meet a need (ex: my brother and his offer to fly out and make the drive back with us...which probably would have taken us something like 5 days instead of 2 if I had been alone) ;)
I can't upload pics on my parents' computer for some reason. Thankfully I brought my laptop which is now up and running thanks to sprint mobile hotspot. Now I can properly document our longest vacation ever. ;)
