We made it!!! Not without a few snafoos. ;) But, we are here, in Korea. I still can't believe it. Here are some pictures and the words I have the energy to write before passing out. :)
My little man sending me off this morning.
My dad drove me to the airport and we made it there with no problems. I made it through check-in and security with plenty of time to spare. I grabbed a drink a Starbucks but that was about all my nervous stomach could handle! The sight of this plane brought tears to my eyes. Every time I looked at it! I seriously had to sit with my back facing the window.
Here we go!
My bibimbap, that the flight attendant looked really surprised about when I chose that instead of the chicken option. I sat next to an older Korean man and his grandson. The man was so nice showing me how to mix everything up. He was being so sweet that I didn't want to tell him that I would rather not add the seaweed soup (which I actually knew the Korean name for because we covered it at Grace's cooking school...just remember yuck and me...so meyuck. That's what she said) Anyway I added the soup to appease my seat mate. ;) He had his grandson ask me where I was going in Korea and when we were getting off the plan he had him tell me to have a nice day.
Oh, this little plane moved so slow!
My flight went well. Other than being looong, I can't complain! My problems started when I got off the plane. :) So, the USO that hubby planned for us to meet up at located at gate 14 is...not. At least not the gate 14 I passed by. I asked at the information desk and he blankly looked at me "USO?" He tried to find hubby's flight info. but it wasn't coming up on his computer screen. Thankfully we had an alternate meeting point, so I thanked the man and headed through immigration and down to baggage claim. I saw his flight number down there so I grabbed my bags real quick from carousel 2 and headed down to carousel 9 to try to catch him. I was hoping he hadn't already gone on to our meeting point at exit 12. After about ten minutes, I decided I better just head to exit 12 in case he was waiting for me there. He was not. Later I found out he was running around trying to find the invisible USO. I made it down to exit 12, which by the way is the last exit! So, it was quite a trek on the recovering ankle. I don't know if it was the exertion or nerves or stress or just bad timing, but I started having my chest pain. I could not believe it. Why, why, why? It was really bad. It hasn't been this bad since the last time it landed me in the ER about a year ago. I took a pain pill and prayed it woud stop. And I maybe cried a little. Where was my husband?!? He did finally show up! It was not quite the reunion either of us had envisioned but we were still happy to finally be together in Korea.
I crushed a couple more pain pills and the hubs got our money exchanged and we rented a cell phone and then waited to catch the bus to Anguk station.I was totally bummed out that my first look at Seoul was, well not really a first look because my eyes were squeezed shut the whole time. My chest pain just would not let up and I was starting to feel super sick to my stomach as well. (Hence the ziploc bag in my hand, it's all I had!)
We made it to Anguk station, without puking I might add, and from there tried to find the Bongsan House that we are staying at Friday and Saturday. A lot of the reviews I had read said it was hard to find. Well, they weren't joking. We pretty much got off the bus, looked at our directions, looked around, looked at each other and decided to try for a cab. So, hubby shows the driver our paper with the info. on it and he says he knows where it is. Or he just wanted our money so of course he was going to say that! He ended up calling the Bongsan house after driving around in a circle a couple of times. And then he kicked us out of his cab. Yes, he did! "Stay put" and the universal gesture for telephone was about all we understood. So, we climbed out and assumed (or hoped) that he meant the woman on the phone from Bongsan was coming to meet us. We were both laughing at this point. I mean, sometimes it's either laugh or cry...or puke on the street corner. So, a minute later a woman comes up to us and waves us on to follow her. Um, ok? I wish I had my camera out to get a picture of hubby walking behind this woman in a dark alley leading us who knows where. :) She lead us straight to the Bongsan, showed us to our room, and left us be. No check in or anything. She probably put it together that the lost looking white woman on the street was the same woman who emailed her two times, called her once, and then got her Korean-speaking friend to call to confirm our reservation. We actually haven't heard anyone else since we got here, so we might have the whole place to ourselves. That will be good for the whole shared bathroom thing. ;)
Here's hubby after we were briskly deposited in our room.
Sitting right outside our room.
My "bed" for the next two nights.
The courtyard. I am looking forward to sitting out there tomorrow evening when I'm not feeling so crummy.
Well, we sure have had an adventure so far and it's only our first day! That's how I started the trip though. I wanted it to be an adventure and to just roll with whatever came our way! Hubby ran out and got some food and brought it back to the room. He ate it while I blogged. My chest pain has finally eased up but I am still feeling sick from those pain meds. I'm hoping to make a full recovery over night! Don't judge me for typos, no time for proofreading tonight, I'm about to crash!
We are in Korea!!!!!
