Lessons from the Little Mermaid

Today marks fifteen months since we received our referral.  Fifteen months.  We knew going in that the wait would be long.  It was "up to 11 months" when we began the process.  Some time after we had been matched with our lil' peanut the wait time was extended to "up to 14 months."  Obviously, the international adoption scene is subject to change.

Two beautiful families that I know have been submitted for EP and are getting so close to bringing their little boys home.  Families that I don't actually know (but I faithfully blog stalk) are also awaiting EP approval, expecting their travel calls, and in some cases, even in Korea right now meeting their children!  This is all great, great stuff people!  I love it!  It makes me happy.

But, let's get real here.  I'm also jealous.  I'm trying not to be.  But, I am.  I'm feeling a little bit like the little mermaid singing "when's it my turn?" while dreaming about being part of their world.  Yes, that part of the song actually popped into my head while I looked at pictures of families united.  True story.  Well, we all know little miss Ariel did finally get her legs and live happily ever after with her prince.  And if she wouldn't have been so impatient maybe she could have convinced her daddy to change her in the first place and avoided all that drama with the sea witch.

Patience.  Patience.  Patience.  My time is coming, I know that.  So, while I wait I will rejoice with those who are rejoicing!  And I will soak up the rest of my one on one time with this little munchkin....
