A little laughter
Tonight when hubby got home C was really wound up. I don't know if he was excited about seeing daddy or just about the prospect of getting to play super mario brothers after dinner. Either way, he ate about one bite and then proceeded to run around the table. I guess that got old, so he decided to run around the table and holler "boobies" over and over again. Hubby asked if I was going to blog about it..."no." We continued to eat our food, trying to stifle our laughter. "Just ignore the behavior," I whispered. Well, that didn't work. C showed no signs of stopping and hubby and I were about to bust out laughing. So, I calmly said, "C, could you pick a more appropriate word to yell while you run around the table?" "Nipples!" And the running and the hollering continued. "Ok, that's going on my blog."
Charlottesville
Instead of making Alex and Bonnie be the ones to drive every time we want to see them. We actually got in the car last weekend and headed to Charlottesville.
There's no better way to start a road trip.
(A minute before this he looked fine. Then hubby looks in the rear view mirror. "Get your camera, now!")
Saturday night hubby and I went on a date.
We got to see Alex perform in Barefoot in the Park!
We spent Sunday morning exploring the University of Virginia campus.
I must say, Alex and Bonnie are excellent tour guides. Alex, in particular, is full of historical knowledge...it's weird...like he reads or something.
The lawn at UVA.
C loved all that open space! He chased their dog around and around.
Imparting all of my historical knowledge on my son. Here we are taking our picture with Thomas Jefferson...right? Yep, I'm a total history buff.
Nope, he didn't crash yet. Just pretending to be dead.
After we left campus, we went downtown and had some really good pizza.
And some yummy gelato!
Finally exhausted on the way home.
We had a great time and are looking forward to our next visit!

Another good find
This morning, C and I set off to check out the Irvine Nature Center. It is a neat little place. Indoor exhibits and lots of trails outside and the best part, it's free! It does take about 45 min. to get there. But, that's how far we used to drive to the zoo when we lived in KS. I think this will be one of our frequent hang-outs...especially when the summer heat gets a little less intense. We would've stayed and explored longer, but I think we were both ready to cool off! (Well, that and my whole 'not a nature girl' thing had about reached it's limit. Next time we'll bring the hubby and those two can really go exploring!)
Ready for our adventure!
Lots of interactive, educational exhibits...
He wasn't too keen on 'The Woods at Night' room.
He loved the 'kid's corner.' Especially when he found the drawer full of snake skins. This is a big deal people...especially when your child's favorite tv show is on the national geographic channel and he frequently refers to you as "Hey, snake wrangler!"
There were tons of butterflies!!!
Showing off his treasures.
All hot and sweaty...ready to hit the gift shop and head home.

Memories
Six years ago this evening, we were rehearsing...
luau-ing...
...freaking out!!!
And we were super excited to be getting MARRIED the next morning!!!
This week
We have had a busy week. We've been plugging away at our application paperwork for the adoption and we're making good progress. We are almost to the point where we will just be waiting on things like our reference letters, child abuse clearances, physicals, etc. Things that we have gotten the ball rolling for, but are in the hands of others.
Today we are spending all day at a pre-adoption education class at our agency. There is no childcare provided so Bonnie drove out last night so she could stay with C today. We are so grateful she had the day off and was willing to help us out!!!
Tomorrow is our 6th wedding anniversary! Wow. We're celebrating by going into Baltimore to get our fingerprints done for our FBI and state background checks. Romantic, I know. :)
Hubby has been coming home regularly for lunch these days...and we are loving it. Especially C, since that has become their Wii time. C loves it when they get yoshi's in the mario game. He will just make his yoshi eat hubby's player and spit him out over and over again. He thinks it's hilarious!

More 4th of July fun
C loved having Aunt Bonnie in town for the weekend!
So did I! We love living close to our dear friends again.
We didn't go to a fireworks show this year. Instead we just got a few things for C to do outside. He loved throwing the little poppers on the patio.
He also liked the snakes...even though they looked more like cat poop than actual snakes.
His first sparkler!

Here we go...again
About 8 months ago we took our first steps toward adopting a child...then life happened...while we waited to see where (literally) our future would take us, we set up a second savings account for our adoption expenses and we waited...and waited...then we moved to MD...then we thought we were moving to IN...now we are staying in MD! And we can finally move foward with the adoption process. Having already veered from the original plan, we are now hoping to adopt a little girl from South Korea. This past Wednesday we attended an informational meeting with the agency we've chosen. This morning we mailed in our registration form. Next we'll start working on the paperwork required for the home study. I am so ready to begin this journey. I have had a heart for adoption since I was a little girl. And about 3 years ago, I discovered that my husband and I had very similar visions of how we would build our family. It will be a long wait...thankfully I have this sweet lil' thing to love on while we wait for him to become a big brother again.
Who does this kid think he is? An 'almost 4 year old'? Unbelievable!
Mailing in our registration form.
Look how much he's changed in just 8 months!!
And yes, this is the last time we will be mailing in a registration form
(for this adoption anyway)
