20 months old!

The 29th was on a weekend this month so I have been chomping at the bit to get these pictures!  So, so happy they came today!!!  At 20 months he is 32.4 inches tall and weighs 25.4 pounds.  (Good thing I still carry C around on occasion, I've kept my arms in shape) ;)  I bet lil' peanut is going to feel so light!  I hadn't seen him with one of our care packages in awhile, and it looks like he had two of them waiting for him this time.

Here's what's inside...

I love this picture of him checking out his loot.
He found a toy he likes!
"I don't even need to see what's in that other bag.  I'm all set." ;)
I forgot to take pictures of the most recent care package headed his way.  It will be travelling with another family sometime in May and I am praying it is the last one I send.  We are hopeful that his June goodies will be hand delivered!!!

New place, New friends!

This past Wednesday we ventured out to explore the science center.  I had read about a bug exhibit they had there that was in it's final week and thought C would like it.  I mentioned it to a fellow soccer mom I've been chatting with at C's practices and she was interested in joining us.  I texted her that night and told her what time I planned on getting to the museum.  The thought crossed my mind to see if she wanted to ride together (it certainly made sense both coming from the exact same place!) but I chickened out.  "Too soon," I thought.  Her response was "Count us in!  Do you want to drive or me?"  Ha!  Obviously she moves faster than me.  ;)  So, the next morning we set out on our adventure.  It was a really great day (minus the part where I lost my child.  Yes, lost.  For the first time ever.  Let's just say that we will now always enter elevators at the exact. same. time.  And why would a museum for children have elevators that don't open back up when you shove your hand in there?!  I had some serious mommy guilt over pulling my hand out at the last minute and watching the doors shut firmly with my son behind them.  I should've sacrificed my fingers, right?!?  While I was running up stairs and all over the third floor like a crazy person, my wise little five year had gotten off the elevator and was patiently waiting for the rest of us to catch up.  Our friends shoved their way on to the next elevator (packed full of people) up to the third floor and found C waiting right there when they got off.  Oh how my heart did a happy dance when I rounded that corner and saw him standing there.  Happy dance, or panic induced palpitations, which took about a half hour to go away.)  C received a lot of praise for doing the exact right thing in that situation and has since requested that I tell the story of the "old school elevator" (because why do they still have elevators that don't open back up when you shove your hand in there?!?) to anyone I talk to.  So, that was the most exciting part of our day.  Now onto some pictures from the rest of our time at the science center.

Checking out the tarantula in the bug exhibit.

Laying on a bed of nails!

More fun in the dinosaur exhibit.

We had a great time!  These two really hit it off and so did the mamas.  I'm looking forward to this new friendship!!

Villians Beware...

...Thomas the Train will mess you up! ;)

So thankful this evening for these sweet friends!  (Both C's and mine)  We had a birthday party for some different friends (we have friends, plural!  How far we've come) ;) this morning.  It was at C's gymnastic school so he was really excited and had a lot of fun.  Then we went to the mall and I took him to see the movie Chimpanzee.  And we followed that up with a fun playdate at our house.  Now, if I can just keep us this busy every day, these next nine months might fly by. :)

C's First Soccer Game!

Sometimes I look at this boy and can't believe how big he is!  Where has the time gone?!?  It's so nice to have "a first" for a change...reminds me that his childhood is far from over!
This one I got when I asked for a "soccer pose."
What's with the face bud?  Is it because your uniform is 4 sizes too big? ;)

I thought for sure our team was going to get crushed.  Practices have consisted of a lot of freeze tag and water breaks.  I think I mentioned that the coach doesn't have kids, nor does he have any experience with this age group.  He just seems irritated most of the time and like he doesn't know what to do with them.  I wouldn't want to be in his shoes, though. ;)
They don't officially keep score.  But, if anyone was keeping track, which everyone was.  We got the win, 3-0.  All three goals scored by the same boy on our team.  They totally don't grasp the team concept and are always trying to steal the ball from each other.  During the half we told C not to run right next to his own teammate if they had the ball, but to head toward the goal and wait for a pass.  A pass that, of course, wasn't coming...but super impressed that he actually did that a few times!
Not super impressed with the fact that he was a little bully on the field!  I don't know if it was the excitement (he has trouble keeping his hands to himself in less hyped up situations!) or if he is really that competitive.  But, he was full-on taking kids out!  Not cool.  The parents on the other team didn't think so.  We didn't think so.  And I'm pretty sure after hubby practically stormed the field and yelled at C (with the added visual effect of a stern finger pointing) he wasn't thinking it was too cool either.  He shaped up pretty well after that.

Taking a turn wearing the special red goalie jersey.  He didn't like being the goalie...I think he was bored.  Thankfully!  I'm so glad his team did a good job of keeping the ball away from our goal because if he cried over a missed goal during practice, you can bet there would've been tears if it happened on game day.

Celebrating!

All tuckered out.
With the exception of his antics early on in the game, I would call it a success!  They are all just too cute running around on the field in their uniforms.  It was fun to watch.  At the beginning of the season we were told all their games would be on Saturdays, but they later decided to do some Friday games as well.  Hubby left early Saturday morning so we were very glad C's first game ended up on Friday so his Daddy was able to be there to see him play!

A short clip of my little man in action!  I told you, too cute!

So it begins...

Hubby left at 5:22 this morning.  I know because after we said goodbye at the door and he went outside to wait for his cab I watched him out my bedroom window until he drove away.  It was sad.  I'm fine.  And that's about all I want to say right now on the subject of goodbyes.

I have been given orders to keep the blog updated for hubby's sake.  So, let's start this off by saying, don't get spoiled babe!  I don't plan on documenting every day, but it's your first one away so I knew you would be super curious about what we did.

We enjoyed the great weather at a playground!

We got new books at the library.
We had breakfast at the Amish market.  (Oh, he's going to be super jealous about this...he told me last night that he forgot he wanted to go there before he left)
We went grocery shopping.
C declared he wanted to "jump in my bouncer...in my underwear."
Why not?
"Mom, do we have any diapers up here?" I heard from upstairs.  His naked hiney came down carrying a diaper.

"What are you doing?"

"What?  You said the other day you were gonna have to change diapers again soon.  See if you still know how to do it."

"You're not going to pee or poop in this thing are you?"

Laughing hysterically, "Why would I do that?!?"
Me and "my two year old" (is it common for kids to regress when a new sibling shows up on the scene?  Maybe we are just getting it out of the way now, hm?) played a little restaurant.
Then we read books.
Then we put in a movie.  And that's what we're finishing up now.  Then it's dinner, bath, and bed!  Little person was up late last night and rose at 6 this morning so I think an early bed time might be in order.  (Maybe for both of us!)

Don't judge me

There was a Korean church having a big event at the lake the day we were there.  We shared our little pier with about ten kids from teenagers to this little guy.  They were all pretty interested in what we were up to, since we had worms (and they were using bread and dandelions) ;)
They had a moment...my big boy making this cute little munchkin crack up.  I couldn't resist snapping a picture...and dreaming of our future family.

Recent happenings

A few things we've been doing...

We went to the aquarium last Friday on hubby's last day of leave.  We headed for the restrooms as soon as we got there with the plan to meet in the cafe because hubby said he wanted a drink.  I walked in to find this little man inhaling a cupcake.  "What?" hubby asked as I sat down and raised my eyebrow.  "At least I waited until a week out" he said.  That would be the 'I feel guilty for leaving so I'll give him whatever he wants' he's talking about. ;)

I decided I wanted some more flowers.  I didn't take a 'before' picture so hubby snapped this one from the yard across the street.  It's pretty much identical to what ours looked like.
Ta da!  Marigolds, some kind of petunia hybrid, the tiny pink flowers my Dad planted that I don't know the name for (I'm quite the gardening expert, huh?) ;)  And hard to see but in the back left corner we've got our pumpkin plants.  Have I talked about the pumpkin plants yet?  C wanted to plant some pumpkin seeds and thinking they would never grow, I let him.  They are flourishing.  Soon that area behind the bushes might be a full blown pumpkin patch.  Ha!
 We went fishing!

Playing with the worms.
Reeling it in!
He caught one!  He was so excited!
