I was not on my A game last August which meant that those two birthdays that are SIX days apart didn't get the attention they deserved. We had finally gotten into our house after about a month of living like nomads, we didn't know anyone, I was hugely pregnant, and hubby was already travelling for work. Anyway, those are just excuses as to why I bought cupcakes instead of decorated an elaborate pokemon cake and took them to the aquarium instead of throwing an epic birthday bash. This year we figured we owed them. ;) So, we told them each to pick something awesome they wanted to do for their birthday. C's first few suggestions were a little too extravagant but eventually he hit on one that we we were actually able to make happen. He wanted to go to the Great Wolf Lodge and lil' peanut wanted a tractor ride. We actually weren't sure we'd be able to make the tractor ride happen, but in the end, they both got their wishes. We spent all last weekend having a great time celebrating the two of them with a trip to Dallas.
As an added bonus, Nana and Papa joined us! The boys loved that and we were blessed to have them with us. The kids all loved the water park. Baby was content to hang out with mama or on Nana's lap when he wasn't toddling around. Lil' peanut went down one of the little slides over and over again and C had the best time swimming around in the wave pool and lazy river with Daddy and Papa. We also all stayed the night together in the kid cabin suite which the big boys thought was so cool. And I think we all actually got a little bit of sleep. ;)C is such a social little creature. He can literally find a friend wherever we go!
That red slide was almost the death of me. That is all.
On Saturday morning C got to have some special time alone with Nana and Papa on his actual birthday while we were able to get lil' peanut that tractor ride he'd asked for. Actually, my professor and mentor from college, Dr. Lou, arranged a wonderful morning for us. Some friends of his hosted us at their ranch.
He sought refuge on top the minivan when the horses got a little too close.
His face when Mr. Snip fired up the tractor. He was SO excited!
Snip let him steer and he has proudly been retelling the story of how "I drive the tractor all by myself!"
After our outdoor adventures we met up with C who was enjoying some bowling with Nana and Papa.
This is my face right after lil' peanut dropped his bowling ball inches from my feet.
Later that evening we drove like an hour to get to this famous Magic Time Machine restaurant. Oh man. We thought it had sounded like a fun place to eat for C's birthday but I was second guessing myself when we arrived. It was dark and a packed, the "arcade" had like three working games the wait was for.ev.er. Everyone but the hubs was ready to throw in the towel. Even C was whining "Why can't we just go to McDonald's for my birthday?!" This was how baby and I felt waiting outside....
Right after that picture I sent my dad in with instructions to come out with my mom in five minutes if they hadn't called us because we were leaving. Three minutes later he came out and said we were next. Some of the tables looked really fun, like the one that was an old carousel or the one inside a school bus! But not ours, it was a plain old booth with some raggedy ann dolls strung up on the walls. Oh boy, did we really just wait well over an hour for this? And then our waitress showed up and I wish I had a picture of C's face because boy did it light up.
And just like that, the night was redeemed. Hubby looked at me with one of his "I told you so" looks and told everyone we could thank him for staying the course and refusing to leave. C had the best time running around looking for different characters and getting their autographs. Here he is with princess peach from mario brothers.
On Sunday we ventured out to In-n-Out Burger for lunch before my folks hit the road back to Kansas.
Pumpkin baby slept through his first In-n-Out experience.
Our last stop on our little getaway was the Perot Museum. Going to a museum with dinosaurs was on C's summer bucket list (nothing like waiting until the very last day of summer vacation to get it checked off) :)
This was such a neat exhibit. You could select your opponent and then race against it. C was so close to beating the T-Rex.
As you can see, Daddy and lil' peanut didn't stand a chance against the cheetah. Ha!
It was a wonderful birthday celebration weekend!
